Take small steps to eco living

I was asked a question on how top become more eco aware without it being overwhelming. So I decided to every now and then post a few tips to slowly build up to a full blown lifestyle of eco awareness that eventually will come as second nature! I’m calling these steps Take small steps to eco living!

You don’t have to become an expert over night, and you don’t have to change everything in your life from one day to the next. Lets be reasonable about this, before attempting to go full blown, try to think about a few things in your life that you want to change and do it. Then move on to the next. Eventually you’ll find yourself living day to day in a much more eco friendly lifestyle!

Today’s SMALL steps towards a more eco way of living:

*Turn off appliances when not in use, and if you can take the extra step, unplug them when not in use.

*Turn off the lights if your not in the room. Try to buy low-consumption light bulbs.

*Buy recycled whenever possible. You can find recycled printer paper, paper towels, toilet paper, the list goes on. If you can buy something in recycled packaging go with that choice.

*Buy a few reusable shopping bags and try to use those instead of plastic ones at the store. There are even reusable produce bags to replace plastic ones as well. Ask me if you need help finding any.

*If you go to Starbucks or any other coffee place on a regular basis, although their cups are made from a bit of recycled material try bringing in your own ceramic tumbler every now and then. IN FACT tomorrow 4/15/10 Starbucks is filling up your reusable tumbler with coffee for free! Sometimes you benefit in more ways than one from going green.

*Of course shorter showers and turning off the faucet when not in use helps

*Reuse things when possible

Ok those are easy right? Not a lot just a few not overwhelming?

I have to cut this post short I have tons of house chores to do and Seth’s ready for his applesauce! Tomorrow I’m making (attempting) caramel fortune cookies that I want to take to an Army Wife picnick hopefully if they come out nice you’ll see them posted!
