Making Tapioca Pearls (Boba)

I absolutely ADORE bubble teas, unfortunately back in TN and here in Harlingen TX I cant find them anywhere. I guess they just aren’t a big seller or people just don’t feel comfortable drinking a drink with floating gummy balls in it that you drink with an over sized straw that lets you suck them right up…maybe that doesn’t sound to great but take my word for it… it is.

I first learned how to make Boba (tapioca pearls) or the much loved gummy balls lol when working at an asian tea shop/bubble tea place called Bobalicious and have been hooked ever since.

My favorite flavor was Taro but there are tons of other awesome flavors.

So, I’m going to let you in on the perfect way to make Boba despite what the packaging usually says lol.

How to make Boba or Tapioca pearls or whatever you want to call them:

1.Boil water

2.Put a few handfulls of Boba in the water and wait 1 min before stirring

3.Put a timer for 30-40 min (check after 30 min to see if they are completely soft). Stir every 5-10 min.

4.Turn off stove, cover with a lid then wait for another 30 min.

5. Strain Boba and rinse with cold water

Use as much as you want in your drink!

Package says 5 min. I did as directed on package and it came out GROSS, hard and sticky and NOT good… then I did as above (how I did it at my old job) and it rocked.

TARO RECIPE

16oz Bubble Tea Flavored Powder Drink

1 Scoop Bubble Tea Flavored Powder
1 Scoop Non-Dairy Powder or Refined Creamer powder
1 Scoop Sweetener (sugar syrup, fructose, Hawaiian cane sugar or sugar)
3/4 cup water
1 cup ice
2 fl. oz. of cooked Bubble Tea Tapioca Pearls

1) Put all ingredients except tapioca into shaker and shake it up.
2) Make sure that the flavored powder and creamer is mixed well.
3) Add bubble tea tapioca pearls to a cup, and pour your drink over.
4) Put in your big fat bubble tea straw and enjoy.
