I learned about Emotional Support Animals (ESA) today and thought I might share in case the information may help any of my readers.

As you know I am an avid animal lover so I’m happy to share the following info! ESA’s are protected by law!

Persons who can be helped by an ESA are people suffering from:
Panic Attacks
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Personality Disorders

If you have an Emotional Support Animal (ESA) or are thinking of registering your animal, you must get a letter of prescription from a licensed mental health professional. If you are not currently seeing one though, you can get a prescription here: Click for prescription info to receive the prescription the person must complete a 12 component online assessment

Protect your right to have your ESA (you can have your pet even if not allowed by landlord and will not have to pay a pet deposit for them):

The Fair Housing Amendments Act of 1988 (FHA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act protect the right of people with disabilities to keep emotional support animals, even when a landlord’s policy explicitly prohibits pets.

Service animals that assist persons with disabilities are considered to be auxiliary aids and are exempt from the pet policy and from the refundable pet deposit. Examples include guide dogs for persons with vision impairments, hearing dogs for people with hearing impairments, and emotional assistance animals for persons with chronic mental illness.

Rights under law:

When you certify your emotional support dog or other animal with National Service Animal Registry (NSAR), you’ll find that 95% of all businesses do not differentiate between a working service dog and an emotional support dog. That’s because your dog will have an official photo ID card attached and other “service animal” identifiers.

Your ESA is even allowed on airplanes with you as long as all the correct documentation is provided as well as your ESA’s photo idea and info provided if you complete Service Animal Certification Kit – ONLY $64.95!
